Two days is just right for Mussoorie. Day one covers Kempty Falls, Gun Hill by cable car, and a long evening walk on Mall Road. Day two works well for Lal Tibba viewpoint, Cloud’s End, and Camel’s Back Road before heading back. You will not feel rushed and you will not run out of things to do either — which is a good sign for any hill station trip.
March through June is peak season when the weather is cool and perfect for escaping the heat below. The views of the Himalayan range are clearest in April and May before summer haze sets in. October and November are quieter with crisp air and golden light — genuinely the best kept secret for timing a Mussoorie trip. December and January bring snowfall which is beautiful but expect cold nights below freezing. Avoid July and August when monsoon clouds block most views and the roads get tricky.
Dehradun is the nearest major city to Mussoorie, just 35 km away. From Delhi, the fastest option is the Jan Shatabdi or Dehradun Express train which takes about 5 to 6 hours — comfortable and affordable at ₹300 to ₹700. From Dehradun station, shared taxis and buses climb to Mussoorie in around an hour. By road from Delhi it is roughly 290 km and takes 6 hours depending on traffic. Direct buses from Kashmere Gate ISBT in Delhi to Mussoorie are also available and cost around ₹400 to ₹600.
Budget travelers staying in a basic guesthouse off Mall Road can manage on ₹1,500 to ₹2,500 per day. A complete two-day trip from Delhi including train both ways, accommodation, food, cable car, and Kempty Falls comes to roughly ₹5,000 to ₹8,000 per person. And if you have never seen the sunrise paint the Himalayas from a Mussoorie viewpoint, set your alarm for once. It is worth every minute of sleep you lose.
